Charting a Path Towards Success
My Career Aspirations in Corporate Instructional Design
As I come to the end of my academic journey here at Florida State University, I pause to reflect on how I reached this milestone, and how to chart the course for my next journey. My career goal is to enter the field of corporate instructional design, which I believe would best suit my academic training and professional experiences thus far.
The value of education was instilled in me at a young age, having been raised by parents who were both teachers by profession. Being a life-long learner has always been a priority of mine, and I showed an interest in teaching others from a young age. I graduated magna cum laude from the Savannah College of Art and Design where I gained a formal education in visual and audio design principles. I leveraged my design skills in the legal technology field to assist attorneys in presenting their sophisticated cases to a jury in defense of their clients. Additionally, throughout my early career, I was given the opportunity to train new employees in using complex software and systems.
After a brief hiatus from the workforce to be a stay-at-home parent, it was time for me to chart a new career path. I wanted to start a new career that combined my passion for multimedia design and training others, which led me to the Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies (ISLT) program at Florida State University. Throughout my academic journey, I have diligently honed my skills in instructional design methodologies, adult learning theories, human performance improvement, and technological innovations that help create effective training and development programs.
My goal is to start a new journey as an Instructional Designer for a corporation after graduation. I want to play a key role in helping a corporation reach its objectives. I will do this by collaborating with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and other team members to align learning initiatives with the company’s goals. I will leverage my expertise in learning theory, technology, and instructional design principles to create transformative learning solutions. These learning solutions include: interactive web-based training modules, mobile friendly job aides, learning games, classroom and virtual training sessions, and performance improvement recommendations. You will find examples of each of these in my portfolio section. With my determination, creativity, and commitment to excellence, I know I will make a difference in a company’s organizational success.
